Good Morning! My scan said I had no virus -- so no worries -- but it was a link to a questionable site, selling a questionable product and I'm certain that Twinks would not have sent it to me.

Sounds like email scamming. A long time ago people were getting emails from me that I did not send. One woman said it was from a porno site! I changed my email address after that!

That is why it is so important to remove all addresses from an email before you FWD it, and send bcc so they are hidden from others.!

YES!

what is bcc?

Willow - Mar 4, 2010 1:22 pm (#2298 of 2310) Reply

bcc = blind carbon copy -- a carbon copy comes from the time when typewriters were used and carbon paper was put between two sheets so that the typist had an automatic copy. Blind means that no one else knows who is getting the email. So bcc means that you can send an email to 25 people and none of them will get the email addresses of anyone else -- or even know who the other 24 people are. It is safer to use because then if one of the people on the list gets a virus -- they can't pass it along to other people. Often, all addresses are automatically kept by email programs.

ok wonder about that thanks for telling

[Patti]Patti - Mar 4, 2010 2:43 pm (#2300 of 2310) Reply

That's something I always use....even if I'm sending it to only one or two people. Now it's become a habit.

Willow - Mar 4, 2010 3:03 pm (#2301 of 2310) Reply

It is so much safer, yet many, many people know nothing about it. They aren't trying to be difficult -- they honestly just don't know.

[Patti]Patti - Mar 4, 2010 3:13 pm (#2302 of 2310) Reply

I have a few friends who know, but just don't care.....unfortunately.

[L, Donna]Donna L - Mar 4, 2010 8:23 pm (#2303 of 2310) Reply

I use it all the time, and delete all previous addresses. I can't believe how many emails I get with dozens of addresses attached.

Willow, thank you for explaining bcc to Gets. I didn't get back here to answer that, and you did a much better job than I would have.

I use that when I remember too, which is getting more often these days.

Think I've pretty much grown out of ALL of the e-mails that have to be forwarded to so many friends -- or you'll have years of bad luck! Hahaha I like to get personal e-mails, but they are few & far between.

It amazes me that they can send you an e-mail from an e-mail addy of a friend. Well, you think it's from them...

Im sure Pam did not want us to buy no viagra so I will hopefully see her today and find out what happened.

howdy there ... hope all is well ... i do not think Pam ment that either

Willow - Mar 5, 2010 7:12 am (#2307 of 2310) Reply

of course she didn't! Pam is innocent of any wrong-doing -- she simply isn't that kind of woman. She just doesn't know about bcc and someone at her home probably just clicked on a wrong link --. Just viewing an image on a website can give that website information. That's because the host site and your computer have to connect in order for you to see the image. Usually it is not nefaripous -- but certain sites are desperate for email info and will do anything to get it.

I'd love to say that I never go to porn sites -- and I don't on purpose -- however, sometimes I've followed a link that ends me on a page I shudder to be on. We should all try to clean out email addresses of people we no longer need to communicate with. That's a start.

debs, "The Gossip Thread - or whatever ....." #2305, 5 Mar 2010 5:03 am

She probably doesn't even konw about those emails being sent in her name.

[debs]debs - Mar 5, 2010 11:23 am (#2309 of 2310) Reply

She may not. I talk to her this morning but did not have time to even mention what happened. Her son had court today for the babies agian. And then her MIL is not doing very well she has to hand feed her for a while so she is very busy.

[KnightOwl]KnightOwl - Mar 5, 2010 2:23 pm (#2310 of 2310) Reply

I wouldn't worry her about it. Especially with all she has 'on her plate' right now. Just put out the warning everywhere she posts and you can let her know about it when she has some slack in RL!
