+ WOMBAT exams - general discussion

Now that Jo has given us both WOMBAT Grade 1 and Grade 2, there's more to think about than simply the questions themselves.
What do you think she is trying to tell us with these tests?
Are there hints to the end of the series tucked in?
How do the two exams differ?
Was Grade 2 really more difficult that Grade 1?
Let's use this thread for discussion of the WOMBATs in general, since there are individual threads for discussing the questions on each exam.
Added Edit: Discussion threads:
+ WOMBAT grade 1 questions and commentary
+ WOMBAT grade 2 questions and commentary
Lol, JulieGE, I just read the 'T' response too! I wonder how many people actually got that?
Ahh, an O...the grade I never got.
I don't actually mind, the tests were extremely enjoyable to take whatever the grade.
The third W.O.M.B.A.T made me O's for all three. That one was tough!

Lol! How good is the Troll response, this exam did state at the start that some questions deducted marks so yes it would be quite feasible to get a negative score.
I score ‘E’ and was quite proud to join the academic elite, although I’m not sure when I really arrived there!
Zelmia- I think that the “In your opinion..?” questions where a hidden survey in the test. I think there is no way to answer those questions wrong, but the examiner learns something about you if you do answer. For example if you said that the ‘Wand Banning’ was the best thing to happen to the Wizarding world then it would show that you clearly mark Wizards higher in the food chain then other intelligent beings. Vice versa if you answered that response to the most harmful Wizarding decision you show that centaurs, house elves, etc. have just as much rights to wands as Wizards do and therefore show a less prejudice stand point!
As to weather anyone actually received a ‘T’ lol I doubt it. You have to have a reasonable knowledge of Harry Potter to even find the exam; I’m mean who browses the JKRowling site if they’re not interested in Harry Potter, then finds the extras link, accidentally turns a fly into a key, unlocks the door and then proceeds to make the new Bloomsbury logo out of three seemingly unrelated shapes! If some one did all that just so sit a test they no nothing about power to them and good luck in the Griselda Marchbanks interview!
Mike, you did better than your sister, too. I took the test twice and got A both times. I think I will send my resume to WWW also. Sounds like a fun place to work.
Geautigers, I am actually a scholarship athelete, so it doesn't matter for me. I get a pass right to the pros.
Well, I've got an O, which was really surprising - I definitely messed up on the Ministers question... The first two were EE for me, so I actually got better
Marie: I think I will send my resume to WWW also. Sounds like a fun place to work.
My only thing is if they make you sign a contract saying that as being a member of the WWW team, you must be willing to be a guinea pig when George and Fred create new products...
Tazzygirl, it would seem to me that one of the first things Fred and George must have done when they got big enough to hire employees was find an excellent source of Medical Insurance with a generouse clause for cases of Accidental Death and Dismemberment to put in the employee compensation package.
They probably have a "this space reserved-for" broom-parking space outside St. Mungos!
I hadn't thought of that, Allison!
I think I'll go ahead and accept the twins' offer and work at WWW.
Note: Carrying a conversation over to here that was originally started on Jo's web site thread.
Thanks Madam Pince for the hugs to She & I on our unique test scores.
They were much appreciated, it's nice to know we won't be shun within the Potter community. lol
Madame Pomfrey: Thanks for the welcome back. I haven't ever really left...just been in one of those serious lurking modes. Bad me, I know. Good to see you back also!
Shelia, ooops excuse me I meant to say Fred there
, maybe we can find one other who was unlucky enough to hit the same glitch as we did & got the dreaded Dreadful score & form a club amongst ourselves? lol As John pointed out, we are also in the company of Hagrid too.
Do we have a Hagrid out there?
Later, Deb...dang it, there I go again, I meant to write George
I took it twice; got an E on the first one, and an O on the second try -- obviously I was a little more prepared then!
Finn, I'm going to feel really stupid when you answer, "Uh...it's your imagination." but is it my imagination, or is your avatar getting darker?

I have been off line for a week now. I had taken the test 3 times. The first two time I received an OUTSTANDING. I had only changed a few answers and I received the same grade. On the third test I just went through and clicked on anything. I still passed with an ACCEPTABLE.
My neice was over and she took the test. She has only seen the movies. She received a POOR. She and I then went over the test again together and this time it was another OUTSTANDING.
P.S. Wombat 3 is the only test I have taken. I missed out on Wombat 1 and 2.
P.S.S. Thanks Patpat for your post back on June 13th. I haven't been online for awile because of work and moving into home that is still receiving some improvments (painting and trim and ect).

There were some points in the commentary on WB3 where you guys missed some things (or so think I) that seem fairly obvious.
_1: I put e: We know that it was rare that they actually got a witch on a witch burning, and that when they did, the witch/wizard simply cast a spell to protect from flame and apperate. That means that the majority of witch burnings would have killed muggles.
_3: c: In the first war, and possibly the second, the giants sided with Voldemort. The fact that Dumbledore sends Hagrid and Mme. Maxine to try to gain their aid indicates that they are not defacto attached to Voldemort: it is quite possible that being driven into hiding by the ministry influenced their siding in the first war.
_4: a: Noone seems to think that the wizarding world and muggle world shouldn't be seperated: Dumbledore thinks muggles would see magic as a panacea and it is likely that the purebloods would consider it a taint on their society. Though they have different reasons, everyone is on the same page here.
_5: e: JKR made a great point to create a connection between Hitler and Grindelwald. Some level of cooperation would be necessary to deal with the cooperation that seems implied between Hitler and Grindelwald.
_7-4: T: Ancient egypt was noted as a center of alchemy for the ancient world. Never forget that JKR is a classics major.
_8: c: We know at least part of this is true, and it seems the most conservative of the answers.
_9: c: For c to be incorrect a, b, or a and b must be true. Any other answer cause a logical problem which would imply that either a or b is both true and false.
_10: a: d would have provided a better option for Crouch Sr. than his wife for replacing his son in Azkaban. That knocks out all of these. We know that a beazor works for a, so that also knocks out none of these. And since we know a to be true, it's the only option.
_13; c: Would fit with Sirius's choice of location.
_14: a: Would be more likely that it would vary according to skill and the strength of the happy memory.
